In Tora's opinion, who ever said coffee isn't good for you was lying. Five blissful hours of blissful sleep after he had opened Shou's present he was awake and trekking through his home like a zombie. He had tried to fall asleep again but after tossing and turning a while, he gave up.
That moment, the most important room of his house was the kitchen. Nothing would keep him away from the treasure known to man as coffee, not the chair that had jumped in his way and tripped him, not the table that had stubbed his toe, not the wet floor that threatened to break his neck if he slipped, not trying to find out why the floor was wet in the first place.
Past the threshold, across the room, on the other side of a cabinet door and bingo! If Tora could already feel himself waking up just by holding the can of coffee, he inwardly grinned like a hyena because he would be back to his ray of sunshine self after one cup.

Could it have been too early? It was almost 11 A.M. so it was conceivable Shou would be awake. It was more than conceivable that his mother would be awake. Yet, here was Tora, waiting for the front door of Shou's house to open, having already knocked two times. The silence from inside didn't do anything to assure him that he had come at a right time.
He raised his hand to knock a third time and if he got no answer then, he would leave and come back later. However, some shifting and padding on the other side of the door caught his attention and the door was opened, his arm left raised and ready to knock.
"Sorry I couldn't answer sooner. Come on in." said the girl who had opened the door, with a smile on her face. She was Shou's sister and the resemblance between the two was striking: she had the same large eyes, the same silky brown hair and the same perky attitude.
"Don't worry, Kirika. Thanks."
After leaving his shoes at the door, Tora walked down the hallway and when he was about to turn a corner and head for the staircase that led to Shou's room, he was bombarded with confetti from in front and from the back. Kirika, who was the 6 o'clock attacker, even put the bowl she had been using to hold the little paper monsters on Tora's head, like a proud hat.
"Suprise!" three voices yelled in unison and a flash caused Tora's head to snap up. His hands shot to the bowl that almost fell off his head, saving it from death by breaking into a million tiny little pieces.
"Happy birthday, you big ol' tiger!" Kirika might have been three years younger and two heads shorter than Tora but she had a death grip. The brunette could attest by the fact that he could barely breathe as Shou's sister gave him a bear hug... a grizzly bear hug.
"I see a slight coloration. You may want to let him go if you want to see him live to be 20."
Even with a lack of oxygen that could be considered unhealthy, Tora recognized Shou's voice and he tried to chuckle along with him. The pressure on his ribs was released and he could breathe again. Through big breaths he could hear Shou down right laughing this time and he couldn't help himself from joining in, soon followed by Kirika and Shou's mother.
"Hope there's no internal bleeding." Shou said and the bowl that was on Tora's head was removed but not by whom the brunette would have expected. It was Shou's mother.
"Happy birthday, Tora. Even if it is one day late." she said with the same kind voice and smile Tora grew to love since he was little.
Shou's distinct voice began singing and his mother moved from in front of Tora. He was met with Shou holding quite a big cake, candles lit, and singing him 'Happy birthday' with Kirika and Mrs. Kohara joining in soon after Shou had started.
Shou handed him the cake and filmed as the brunette blew them out, after which they took a few pictures.
"Shou, get over there." Mrs. Kohara said, or rather ordered. With a laugh, Shou complied and came next to Tora, both of them holding the cake.
"Let me take this into the kitchen. There's a lot more to go though before you can devour it." Shou's mother said and took the cake from Tora and Shou's hands. "Kirika, I want you to help me with something."
"You three sure know how to make surprises." Tora said as he was shaking the confetti from his clothes. Shou just laughed and proceeded to rid Tora of the confetti stuck in his hair.
"Hey, what's this?" Shou took hold of his friend's wrist and inspected the ornament. "Dude, what is this?"
"It's one of Uruha's presents. He also got me a necklace but I don't have it on." Tora replied, trying to keep his laugh inside at Shou's analyzing look.
"The stone on this bracelet looks like my left nut and I kid you not about that." said Shou.
Tora couldn't keep himself in check after that statement and burst out laughing like a maniac. "So, your left nut is this small and has 'Love' written on it. I pity you, my dear friend."
"I wasn't talking about that! I was referring to the shape... and color... and... and I'll shut up now."

Nao was completely buried in his homework and almost fell out of his chair when a knock came at his door. "Coming!" He gathered the papers that had fallen on the floor and put them on the desk before going to open his door. He liked his privacy and his parents knew that, so nobody entered until Nao opened his door for them.
"Hi!"
Nao's mouth dropped open when he saw who was on the other side of the door. "S-Saga?!" How did he get there? Wasn't his mother home? Wouldn't she have called Nao downstairs if he had a visitor or at least shouted it to let him know?
"Can I come in?" Saga asked.
"Huh, wha?... Oh, yeah! Of course!"
Saga chuckled at how flustered Nao was. It was quite amusing to see him not understanding what was going on. "Come here and stop trying to solve matters like curing world hunger." Saga grabbed his boyfriend and brought him flush against his body. He encircled Nao with his arms and kissed him deeply. "Now, that is how you welcome someone."
"I can't agree with you more." Nao answered. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be recharging your batteries after Tora's party?"
"My biological clock is kind of screwed up so I couldn't sleep more than five hours. And can't I visit my boyfriend?!" Nao quickly shushed him because his voice was a bit too loud. "Haven't told your parents yet?"
Nao shook his head 'no'. "I'm sorry. I just don't know how to. Every time I think I can do it, my courage deflates like a soufflé that isn't baked well."
Saga chuckled lightly at Nao's analogy. "Don't worry. I know it's hard to tell your parents you're dating another guy." Saga embraced Nao to reassure him. "So, what are you doing?"
"Finishing my homework." Nao left the embrace and went to his desk.
"You've been doing homework since yesterday. Leave it a while and let's go somewhere." Saga said as he came up behind Nao and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend.
"I can't. I need to finish what I have for the entire week."
"Why?"
Nao bit his lip. Saga sounded hurt and he could see the signs of a pout from the corner of his eye but he was sure Saga was feigning it. "Because I... I want to have more time during the week to spend with you."
Saga's pout disappeared and he looked with big eyes at Nao. "Do you know how sweet that is?"
"Then you don't think I'm not being dumb?" Nao asked as he turned around and faced the blonde.
Saga chuckled. "Why would I think you're dumb? You're the sweetest person I've met." He cupped Nao's cheek and lifted his head so they could kiss once more. "But I'm still taking you somewhere now, whether you like it or not."

Laughing and stomping could be heard going up the stairs and down the hall. One of the laugh filled persons was attempting to run away from the one who was attempting to tickle him. The one who was about to run sometimes got a bit more defensive and attempted to capture his attacker in a head lock.
By the time they had reached the door that was their target they could hardly breathe. As it was opened, they crashed through it and a few paces into the room they feel on their posteriors on the floor, laughing through their pants.
"I can't believe the faces Kirika made when you described your first kiss and your first time!" Shou gasped out.
"Yeah, but I totally destroyed her dreams when I answered your mother's question if I had someone."
"The risks of playing truth or dare, my friend."
They stopped laughing and straightened themselves but still stayed on the floor and caught their breaths. They would occasionally snort from trying to keep their laughing fits inside. Tora was slowly starting to doubt the similarity between Shou and his sister was striking. For one, she couldn't sing to save her life. And karaoke was her idea. Shou had protested to it but he was outnumbered by his mother and Tora – Mrs. Kohara told him not to be mean to his sister and Tora simply had no idea what Kirika could do with her vocal cords... or rather what she couldn't do.
Then followed a few rounds of poker which turned into full blown hours. Kirika wanted the loser of each game to remove some clothing but everybody was against it so they played for the cookies Shou's mother had made. Kirika was the one who lost almost every time so Shou and Tora would poke fun at her and ask if she still wanted to play strip poker.
Last but not least was truth or dare. Who would have thought that Mrs. Kohara would dare Tora to describe what his first kiss and first time felt like? The bad part was that she wouldn't buy the fact that he presumably was still a virgin. Apparently, she could read all over his face that he had more experience in the field than he let on. It was quite embarrassing to describe such intimate details but the faces Kirika made were worth it. Not to mention when he had to answer Mrs. Kohara's question of if he was taken. Kirika had had a crush on Tora for a while and flirted with him every chance she got. Both he and Shou thought it was quite amusing.
"Let's see what's on the radio." Shou got up from the floor and went to his desk, turning the radio on.

Tora burst out laughing and started rolling on the floor. It was too perfect. "Why Shou, I didn't know you cared so much." he said in a faux-innocent way, batting his eyelashes. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you called the radio station and requested this song at this hour." he said when he had caught his breath but still with some laughter in his voice.
"Oh, get off your high horse! Old age is starting to catch up with you. You're already turning senile." Shou retorted, smirking.
"In that case you'd better watch yourself, too. You're only one year younger than me." Tora replied, smirking as well, and got off the floor, heading for the bed and sitting on it.
"Hey, you said that bracelet was one of Uruha's presents. What else did he get you?" Shou asked as he pulled the chair from his desk and sat on it, facing Tora.
"You mean the bracelet that had your left nut as a model?" Shou pouted and the brunette laughed at how easy it was to tease his friend sometimes. "He got me a necklace, too. The pendant is in the shape of a keyhole and guess what he has – a necklace with a key-shaped pendant."
"That's rather girly." Shou raised an eyebrow.
"Uruha acts like a girl quite a lot." Tora replied and Shou couldn't not agree with him. Uruha did act like a girl, especially when he was jealous. "And if you're feeling smug, I'm about to give you another reason to be. I loved your present. Thank you." Shou could tell Tora was genuinely grateful. He was glad his friend had liked what he had got him.
"Did you look on the inside of the bracelet?" Shou asked.
"On the inside? You mean there's an inscription on it?" He got a nod in reply. "No, I didn't. It seemed rather thin for anything to be there."
He pulled up his sleeve and the bracelet came into view. Shou smiled at seeing his friend already wearing it. Tora unfastened it from his wrist but Shou took it from his hand and went to his desk.
"The writing is really small. Look through this."
Tora took the magnifying glass from Shou and looked at the bracelet. "Amicitia Thesaurus Est." he read aloud.
"It's Latin for 'Friendship is treasure'." Shou replied. His smile grew when he saw Tora smiling genuinely again. "You should check out some other Latin sayings. Those Romans had a lot of words of wisdom."
He picked up the bracelet and put it back in its rightful place, on Tora's wrist. His fingers lingered there a moment and when he realized it, he pretended to be studying how the wrist looked with its new ornament.
"You don't need to inspect it like that. Even if it didn't look all that great I wouldn't care. It's a present from you, isn't it? The thought behind it counts, after all." The two friends smiled at each other. "Oh, you have some cake left on your face."
"I do? Where?" Shou's eyebrows raised and he made to turn around and pick up something that could take the role of a mirror but Tora put a hand on his shoulder and kept him from moving.
"Right here."
A lot of things could make Shou turn rigid like a statue and he had just added another one to his list. Tora's lips had attached themselves to the skin right next to the corner of his mouth. The tip of the brunette's tongue licked the little patch that he had attacked and the sensation sent shivers down Shou's spine. He released a small sigh when he felt Tora's lips move away but he somehow felt disappointed.
He was once again surprised when Tora embraced him. "Thanks for today and for not being upset about last night."
Shou bit his lip and brought his arms up, returning his friend's embrace. When had Tora become so emotional? Granted, Shou had seen him in his tender moments and weak ones, something that Tora didn't let too many see, but something was different about the situation at hand.
"You don't need to thank me for anything. I'm glad you had fun today and I hope you had a great time yesterday."
"I had fun but it wasn't the same without you." Tora said and Shou's heart skipped a beat at that. "Thanks again, you rabbit." the brunette said after leaving the embrace and ruffling his friend's hair. Shou gaped at the nickname that Tora had hardly used lately. So much for the emotional moment.
"I told you to stop calling me that!"
"And for a while I did. I just couldn't resist." Tora laughed.
Shou shook his head and smiled. Some things would never change – such as Tora's mood swings. Speaking of mood swings, Shou's eyes glinted evilly. "If you call me a rabbit I guess it's only fair I call you something too. Judging by your mood swings I could very well call you a pregnant woman." he said with a resolute nod to emphasize his point.
Tora burst out laughing again. "My dear Shou, I'm sorry to disappoint you but, besides the fact I lack the proper genitalia for that, the pregnant one would be Uruha. I don't bottom."
The brown haired teen raised a challenging eyebrow. "Sure. There's always a beginning for everything."
Tora chuckled and shook his head. He loved this playful bickering. "Keep dreaming, Shou. Listen, I better get going. I didn't leave my parents a note that I would be here and they're probably back by now. Thanks again for today."
"No problem. See you tomorrow."
"Bye!" Tora said and he was out the window, moving through the tree and into his own bedroom.

1. I'm sticking to the real age difference between Tora and Shou so Tora is one year older than Shou. That makes them 19 and 18, respectively. Just to let you all know: Tora did not get held back one year if you're wondering why he's in the same grade as Shou if he's one year older. I'll explain that in a later chapter.
2. I have no idea what Shou's sister's name is. I just really like Kirika so I used it.
3. I have seen a bracelet such as the one Uruha got Tora. They're real, I SWEAR!!

"And if you're feeling smug, I'm about to give you another reason to be. I loved your present. Thank you." Shou could tell Tora was genuinely grateful. He was glad his friend had liked what he had got him.
"Did you look on the inside of the bracelet?" Shou asked.
"On the inside? You mean there's an inscription on it?" He got a nod in reply. "No, I didn't. It seemed rather thin for anything to be there."
He pulled up his sleeve and the bracelet came into view. Shou smiled at seeing his friend already wearing it. Tora unfastened it from his wrist but Shou took it from his hand and went to his desk.
"The writing is really small. Look through this."
Tora took the magnifying glass from Shou and looked at the bracelet. "Amicitia Thesaurus Est." he read aloud.
"It's Latin for 'Friendship is treasure'." Shou replied. His smile grew when he saw Tora smiling genuinely again. "You should check out some other Latin sayings. Those Romans had a lot of words of wisdom."
He picked up the bracelet and put it back in its rightful place, on Tora's wrist. His fingers lingered there a moment and when he realized it, he pretended to be studying how the wrist looked with its new ornament.
"You don't need to inspect it like that. Even if it didn't look all that great I wouldn't care. It's a present from you, isn't it? The thought behind it counts, after all." The two friends smiled at each other. "Oh, you have some cake left on your face."
"I do? Where?" Shou's eyebrows raised and he made to turn around and pick up something that could take the role of a mirror but Tora put a hand on his shoulder and kept him from moving.
"Right here."
A lot of things could make Shou turn rigid like a statue and he had just added another one to his list. Tora's lips had attached themselves to the skin right next to the corner of his mouth. The tip of the brunette's tongue licked the little patch that he had attacked and the sensation sent shivers down Shou's spine. He released a small sigh when he felt Tora's lips move away but he somehow felt disappointed.
He was once again surprised when Tora embraced him. "Thanks for today and for not being upset about last night."
Shou bit his lip and brought his arms up, returning his friend's embrace. When had Tora become so emotional? Granted, Shou had seen him in his tender moments and weak ones, something that Tora didn't let too many see, but something was different about the situation at hand.
"You don't need to thank me for anything. I'm glad you had fun today and I hope you had a great time yesterday."
"I had fun but it wasn't the same without you." Tora said and Shou's heart skipped a beat at that. "Thanks again, you rabbit." the brunette said after leaving the embrace and ruffling his friend's hair. Shou gaped at the nickname that Tora had hardly used lately. So much for the emotional moment.
"I told you to stop calling me that!"
"And for a while I did. I just couldn't resist." Tora laughed.
Shou shook his head and smiled. Some things would never change – such as Tora's mood swings. Speaking of mood swings, Shou's eyes glinted evilly. "If you call me a rabbit I guess it's only fair I call you something too. Judging by your mood swings I could very well call you a pregnant woman." he said with a resolute nod to emphasize his point.
Tora burst out laughing again. "My dear Shou, I'm sorry to disappoint you but, besides the fact I lack the proper genitalia for that, the pregnant one would be Uruha. I don't bottom."
The brown haired teen raised a challenging eyebrow. "Sure. There's always a beginning for everything."
Tora chuckled and shook his head. He loved this playful bickering. "Keep dreaming, Shou. Listen, I better get going. I didn't leave my parents a note that I would be here and they're probably back by now. Thanks again for today."
"No problem. See you tomorrow."
"Bye!" Tora said and he was out the window, moving through the tree and into his own bedroom.
Post Notes:
1. I'm sticking to the real age difference between Tora and Shou so Tora is one year older than Shou. That makes them 19 and 18, respectively. Just to let you all know: Tora did not get held back one year if you're wondering why he's in the same grade as Shou if he's one year older. I'll explain that in a later chapter.
2. I have no idea what Shou's sister's name is. I just really like Kirika so I used it.
3. I have seen a bracelet such as the one Uruha got Tora. They're real, I SWEAR!!
4. And Saga and Nao make another appearance. Nya! =3
5. I completely suck at LJ layout codes so someone PLEASE HELP ME CHANGE THE TEXT COLOR INTO BLACK BECAUSE THIS GREY ON WHITE BURNS THE EYES x_______X!!!!
