Watching TV with your feet propped on the coffee table probably wasn't the best way to wait for your guests to arrive. But if you were alone it didn't really matter, especially if the food was laid out on a long table that actually was made out of three tables put head to head and if the main attraction of the party, the alcohol, was where everyone could get their hands on it as fast as possible.
The doorbell signaled that the first guests had arrived and Tora turned off the TV, heading to open the door and get the party started.
"Hey, babe. Happy birthday!"
Uruha greeted Tora from the other side of the door and kissed him deeply. As they got out of the way, they broke apart and who was behind Uruha started piling into the house, congratulating Tora and wishing him the best. The brunette was happy they could make it and he was surprised to see more people than he had expected.
"Did I make these many invitations?"
"You actually forgot to make a few. I let them know verbally." Uruha laughed at his boyfriend's mistake and mostly at the surprised look on his face. "Come on, birthday boy, let's have a wild party!"
After a couple of hours the party was really kicking and, thanks to Tora drawing everybody's attention that if they broke anything they would pay through their nose for it, nothing had suffered any damage – even all the glasses were intact. People were already more that tipsy and it wasn't even midnight.
"Hey, Uru, did you give out all the invitations? There are still a few people I haven't seen." Tora shouted over the blaring music.
"Yeah, I did. Reita called me and said he and Ruki would be a little late. I don't think you want to hear the reason." Uruha shouted back, a smirk plastered on his face in the second part of his statement.
"Not really. Oh, there's one of the people who I haven't seen." the brunette said as he snapped his head toward the door, seeing a new guest coming through the door. He had left a sign on the door that said the door was open and they could walk in – nobody would hear the doorbell if they rang it anyway. "That leaves only one person missing. Did you give Shou his invitation?"
"Of course! I delivered it myself. I dropped it right in his locker." Urha replied in the sweetest voice he could muster.
"Are you sure that locker was his?" Tora raised an eyebrow.
"I think I know which locker is whose, Tora."
"Okay, we'll say I believe you." Tora was skeptical the dirty blonde did his duty of handing out the invitations to everyone he was supposed to, mainly because of his dislike for Shou, but the brunette decided to give Uruha the benefit of the doubt.
"I'm wounded that you don't believe me! It's his decision to show up or not. Also, do you seriously think he would feel comfortable around the people you invited? They don't fit and he would be really uncomfortable."
"Since when have you cared about him being comfortable or not? Are you maybe starting to take a liking to him?" Tora said in a mock-hopeful tone. He was teasing Uruha but he really hoped the dirty blonde would bury the hatchet with Shou and the two could be friends.

Shou was not happy. The store where he had left the picture he wanted to frame the previous day was supposed to have it ready at 3 PM, Saturday – Tora's birthday. Shou went to the store at the hour he was told but he ended up waiting another four hours because the orders were mixed up and they ended up putting the wrong frames on the wrong pictures. Figures something like that had to happen.
Shou wasn't happy but he kept telling himself that the waiting was worth it – the frame was quite lovely and he killed the hours he needed to hide from Tora without being seen and possibly being caught unprepared.
And so, the hour was almost 8 PM since he opted for returning on foot and he was close to his and Tora's houses. He started hearing music and it got louder and louder as he got closer to his destination and he was quite surprised to find out it came from his best friend's house. Seeing the sign on Tora's door, Shou walked in and his ears were assaulted with the loud music blaring in the speakers. Thinking of his neighbors, he quickly closed the door behind him. It wasn't the greatest barrier but it did a relatively good job of keeping the noise inside as much as it could.
He looked around himself as he took careful steps further into the house and was amazed at how many people were present. He hadn't seen so many people in one room, dancing their feet off, since the homecoming prom when he was a junior.
"Great birthday party, eh?" said one of the people that were near him as he patted Shou on the shoulder and moved past him.
Birthday party? Did Tora organize it? Probably not because, if he did, he would have given Shou small hints and if he failed to realize what he was supposed to realize, the brunette would blatantly tell him and then whack him over the head. It was a routine that had developed between them when something obvious was hinted at.
"And the bunny rabbit ventures into the lion's den. Or maybe I should say tiger's den."
Shou looked in front of him and was met with Uruha.
"Need I even ask why Tora hasn't said anything to me?" Shou asked Uruha and crossed his arms over his chest. He was on the willing side to be friends but the dirty blonde started to get on his nerves with him constantly breathing down Shou's neck.
"If you want, you can, but I won't guarantee you'll like it." Uruha replied as he approached Shou so they wouldn't have to shout as loud. Shou didn't reply – he just kept looking at the teen in front of him, narrowing his eyes slightly. Uruha took his silence as a sign that he could continue his speech, not that he wouldn't have, had Shou said he didn't want to know. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, you see, I'm afraid Tora is trying to cut his ties with you. Why do you think he didn't tell you about this party?"
That was rich! Shou could barely keep his laughter in at what Uruha was saying. Tora hadn't done the smallest thing to hint at wanting to cut ties with him and Shou doubted he would anytime soon. Deciding not to say anything just yet, he let the dirty blonde go on with his monologue because, quite frankly, it really was one.
"You may not want to believe me but it's true. The only thing keeping him back from outright saying he doesn't want anything to do with you anymore is the fact that you've been friends for so long and he doesn't want to drop the bomb like that."
Shou listened and when a second passed and Uruha didn't say anything else, the brown haired teen realized he was finished. "And you care so much about me that you don't want to see him leading me on, right? I didn't know you were such a good person, Uruha."
Uruha's eye twitched slightly and he opened his mouth to retort something smart to Shou but he stopped when he heard a familiar and quite happy voice behind him.
"Shou, I'm glad you made it!"
Uruha turned 90° to face Tora, not showing his back to Shou. He had shown his claws and teeth a little – who was to say he wouldn't use them while Uruha wasn't looking?
"You are, are you?" Shou replied, pinning Uruha with a slight glare.
"Yes, I am. Why do you think I invited you?" The brunette raised an eyebrow as he started walking towards the two. When he noticed how they were glaring at each other out of the corner of their eyes, he mentally slapped his forehead. "Oh, for crying out loud!"
"Did you get me the punch glass I asked you?" Uruha piped up as soon as he was close enough.
"Yeah, here." Tora handed him the glass and Uruha smiled. The dirty blonde took the glass in one hand and wrapped the other around his boyfriend's shoulders and brought him down for a kiss which he wanted to be as steamy as possible so he could make sure Shou saw it all.
Tora was taken by surprise when Uruha started kissing him, not to mention he was weirded out when the dirty blonde seemed like he wanted a make out session of the magnitude when they were really hot and bothered and on the brink of ripping each other's clothes off.
"That's enough exhibitionism." he said when he broke the kiss sooner than Uruha wanted and the line shut the dirty blonde up.
"Tora, can I talk to you? Somewhere private and preferably quiet?" Shou asked when Tora returned his attention to him.
"Sure. The garden is the only place left vacant. All the other rooms are occupied by somebody screwing somebody else." Tora replied with a chuckle and led Shou outside, both unknowing of the heated glare Uruha was shooting at the now closed front door.
***
"I am willing to end a truce but I swear, Uruha is driving me bonkers!"
Finally, Shou could let loose. He could care less if people were looking at him through the windows and thought he was crazy because of how he was waving his hands all over the place and yelling his frustrations.
"Shou, easy! Take a deep breath. Remember – Zen." Tora said as he put his hands on his friend's shoulders, calming him down. Shou followed the instructions, taking a deep breath then releasing it. "What did he tell you this time? And don't say 'nothing' again."
Shou ran a hand through his brown locks, letting out a sigh. "I just don't know what his deal is. Is the fact that you and I are friends bothering him that much? Did I ever give him any reasons to believe he has to do everything he can to make sure the two of us aren't friends anymore?" Hardly had he finished his rhetorical question when something dawned on him and with wide eyes looked straight at Tora. "You didn't tell him about the kiss, did you?"
"No, I didn't. I only talked about it with Saga and..."
"Could Saga have told him?!" Shou interrupted. "What if he somehow..."
"Shou! Calm down!" Tora once again put his hands on the shorter teen's shoulders to get him to stop fidgeting. "What Saga and I talk about stays between us – it's always been like that. There's no way Saga would have told Uruha. He doesn't know about the kiss and will not know unless I tell him. Does that reassure you?"
"Not completely but a little." Shou answered.
"Good. Now get in there and have the time of your life." Tora said and patted Shou's shoulder.
He started walking towards the door but he stopped when he didn't hear footsteps behind him. Turning around, he raised an eyebrow at Shou, who hadn't moved from his spot but when the brown haired teen started walking towards him, he still couldn't shake the feeling that he wouldn't be seeing Shou too much that night.
"I'm not staying. I'm just going to wish you a happy birthday and give you this." Shou handed Tora the relatively large present bag imprinted with a sleeping tiger cub on it that he had been holding since he first set foot into the brunette's house.
Tora blinked. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Why? Even if Uruha didn't give you an invitation you know very well that you don't need one. You're always welcome."
Shou pushed the bag against Tora's chest since the brunette hadn't raised a hand to take it and he was glad to see it was accepted. "This is your party and I don't want to ruin it with any potential cat fights Uruha might want to start. Tonight's special for you. Don't worry, we can celebrate your birthday tomorrow – just the two of us and, possibly, my mom and sister."
Shou laughed a little and was really sorry he had to give up being with his best friend on his birthday because of a jealous boyfriend but he didn't want that special occasion to be ruined by said jealousy. The wise give in – wasn't that how an old saying went?
***
Even if the atmosphere in the house was one that demanded cheerfulness, Tora was having trouble responding to that demand as he was making his way through the living room and headed for the stairs to take Shou's gift into his bedroom.
"You didn't listen to me."
Tora looked at the person who had spoken and let out a long sigh. Saga had a scolding look on his face but it also held some sympathy.
"Well, they're not together under the same roof anymore." Tora replied with a monotone voice, referring to what Saga had said at the beginning of the week about having both Shou and Uruha in the same house.
"Yeah, but the damage is already done."
Saga's comment went unheard by Tora, or so the blonde thought, because the brunette had started up the stairs right after he had said all he wanted to Saga.
